Heat Alert! Excessive Heat Warning for all areas of Los Angeles through July 8

The National Weather Service has issued an excessive heat warning in the Los Angeles region. The City is opening the following augmented cooling centers, which will be open from Wednesday, July 3 – Monday, July 8, from 10:00 am to 9:00 pm.

In addition to these augmented cooling centers at City Recreation and Parks facilities, the 70+ LA City Libraries are also available for cooling and shelter during their regular operating hours. For City Library branch locations and hours of operation, visit LAPL.org/Branches.

Stay safe and cool during heat waves with the following steps:

  • Drink more water and carry a reusable water bottle. You can find hydration stations at every City Library during hours of operation.
  • Limit drinks with high sugar, caffeine, or alcohol content.
  • Take cool showers.
  • Visit “Cool Spots” – find one near you: Climate4LA.org/CoolSpotsLA
  • Avoid direct sunlight.
  • Avoid outdoor tasks or do them early (or late) in the day.
  • Wear light-colored, lightweight clothing that breathes.
  • Check on vulnerable neighbors, such as seniors, pregnant people, disabled people, babies and toddlers, people with chronic illnesses, outdoor workers, and unhoused and/or unsheltered people.
  • Carry extra water in your car to offer to people in need, especially if they are showing signs of heat illness.
  • Keep your pets cool and hydrated, off of the pavement, and out of locked cars!
